"I design images around story and performance — movements and light exist to reveal the inner life of the character"
- Jack -
Formally trained in New York City and fire-tested in the underworld of Hong Kong cinema, Jack Lam is a cinematographer whose work blends fluid intuition with classical discipline. Known for his inventive “camera kung-fu” and meticulous visual language, his imagery is rooted in emotion — often exploring silence, tension, and the space between what’s seen and what’s felt.
His narrative and commercial credits span genres and continents, from stylized thrillers to art-house dramas. His notable works include Fearless Whisper, a period spy thriller that became a nationwide hit, and Day and Night 2, the sequel to a Netflix-acquired crime series acclaimed for its gritty urban aesthetic. Jack also collaborated with leading filmmakers including Oscar-winning cinematographer Peter Pau, HKSC, and director Wong Kar-wai on the epic drama series Blossoms Shanghai. His cinematography has been recognized at Tribeca, Capalbio, and the Ciclope Awards.
Jack studied cinematography at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, where he received two Excellence in Cinematography Awards, and further trained at the FAMU film academy in Prague.
He is currently based in Los Angeles and works internationally.
